In this refuge is permitted only the waterfowl and upland game bird hunting (only in designed hunting areas), but other species are protected. Fishing is also permitted and many fisherman go there to catch trout, whitefish, sunfish, crappie, walleye and others.

Along with fishing, hunting and bird watching, in surroundings of Great Falls can be enjoyed several other outdoor activities like river-rafting, canoeing, kayaking, walking, biking, jogging, in-line skating, hiking and camping. The city is deserved by an international airport and therefore people can travel there and spend great vacations much easier as many could imagine! Hotels in Great Falls are a good base to take trips to other regions in the state like to Yellowstone National Park or to ski resorts such as Bear Paw Ski Bowl, Whitefish, Big Sky Ski Resort, and others.
